The Yurt and New Terraces
The Yurt and New Terraces

A “new” Yurt and new terraces.

I’m sitting outside the yurt on a new area of terrace. I’ve just spent the day discussing routes for a piste with neighbours, negotiating with Fuddle (ex land owner) and calculating working days and material needs with the masons.

Another glorious sun set tells me it’s almost winter.

It’s cool, even cold now. The land is shaded in a golden veneer of the setting sun and, whilst we have had to completely stop the house build, I couldn’t be happier with the way the things has evolved.

What to do where?

TBH, it’s been a very different year to the last, one in

What to do where
What to do where

which I never felt that I was here and in control enough. There were far too many distractions this year and with the detail of the build, far more need to “know” what I wanted to do…which I still don’t.

Thus whilst in the immediate aftermath of the decision/realization that I had to stop building, I felt fairly despondent.

Now, given that we’ve started working on the land and that there are plans afoot to complete terracing, boundaries, a plunge pool and to bring in all necessary materials, I couldn’t be happier with the final way it has all evolved…which is to admit that sometimes it is the journey that guides and not oneself.

Ooops Mav is calling….

Which is another great thing, Shaun is coming over, as is Mav and his girlfriend and then I’m off to Papua New Guinea.

The work on the Farm is going pretty well, but as I say in a different direction to the one I expected and that’s more than fine. I really feel I need the time to think through how I want to develop the house, water plans, electricity plans, sanitation plans…..I’ve also had a great idea re developing an interior design cooperation which could be brilliant and it feels as if it is evolving as it should do.

Happy up here.

Tomorrow I’ve got to order tons of materials, leave money for

Happy up here.
Happy up here.

diggers, trucks, workers, give away 4 – 5 puppies, leave all food for dogs, organize how to leave the yurt, pack up everything else I’ve in the yurt and take the car out of the country to go to Jerez and discuss cars with Juan…it’s only going to be chaotic…and then UK…Moroc…friends and family visiting and then PNG…with quite a lot of work in between, and it’s been like that all summer.

Too much to do and too little time…but now, as the sun sets on what is in all probability my last night on Loubar for this year, it feels like I’ve made a lot of progress in so many ways…and I am happy….. Which is nice!

The Farm Finn Team 2015.

And finally a note to the people who have made all this possible, The Team. In most cases these are the same guys who were here last year and with Mohammed Mwalem, since the beginning.

I really enjoy working with the guys, there’s a camaraderie that is absent from urban builds and, coming from the village, a wealth of local knowledge and contact.

As ever, I feel it’s important that money from this project goes in to the local community and that the project builds links, from the outset, to local communities and that is what we are doing.

But before I end this, I have to say another thank you and that is to Mr Finley O’Sullivan, who also inspires me, fills me with love and makes every day a better day. Thank you son, I love you.
